A number of Cocoa farmers in the Atiwa West District in the Eastern Region have revealed that Cocoa mass spraying in the area is now about whom you know and who knows you since the sprayers have been selective in discharging their duties and also they are not given fertilizers due them to increase farm produce.

According to the cocoa farmers, government may think its employees there are discharging their duties, on the other hand, they are continually ignoring the cocoa farmers and it’s really affecting their cocoa yield.

In an interview with Radio 1 News, the aggrieved farmers who were very much hurt revealed that it’s about time the government comes to their aid.

While others complained that they are neglected because they do not belong to any group/co-operation, others also say even as they belong to the groups and associations, they are not attended to and that the leaders and their cronies share for themselves.

One former best Cocoa farmer in their area, Kwame Adu Gyamfi who was reluctant to voice the grievances finally spoke, “I decided not to speak but I will speak now because the farmers are dear to me. Even me as a former best cocoa farmer, the cocoa mass sprayers have ignored me. They are selective in discharging their duties. My farms have not also seen the cross pollination before, they are selective in their work”, he lamented.

Lack of fertilizers was another major problem they talked about. Expressing their various worries, a majority who were heavily affected bemoaned and advised that government should readily make fertilizers available for them, reduce the price, so that they can afford them on their own.

While others complained of lack of water for irrigation some also complained about the road access to their respective farms and therefore used the opportunity to appeal to government to come to their aid as soon aspossible.
