Former Trade minister under the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama’s administration Dr Ekow Spio Garbrah, and a flagbearership aspirant for the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC has revealed that NDC losing the 2016 general election was not accidental rather it was a deliberate decision taken by party members not to vote and he sees no reason that former prez Mahama must be given the nod to lead the party again.

According the political elite, NDC should not make mistake to go for “Sankofa”, but to go for fresh mind, fresh initiative to boost the party’s moral.

In a phone interview on the susubiribi Morning Show on Radio1FM, 100.7MHZ on Wednesday, January 23 2019, Spio told the host, Captain Kofi Owusu that Sankofo will not help the party. This came up as a response to what transpired between him (Spio) and the vetting committee as he went for vetting yesterday to be scrutinized on the need to be given the nod to lead the NDC to capture power in 2020 election.

“we didn’t lose 2016 election by accident. The people didn’t come out to vote. So bringing a former president who has only one term won’t help the party. We need fresh blood, fresh mind and new personality not ‘Sankofa'”, he said.

However, he believes among the 7 candidates that went for vetting yesterday, he is more experienced and have worked in related positions that gives him opportunity over the rest of the aspirants.

NDC flagbearership election has again been rescheduled from 26th January, 2019 to 23rd February 2019.
