Former National First Vice-Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Stephen Ntim has urged the chiefs and the people of the newly created regions to humbly accept the towns that will soon be announced as the regional capitals.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is scheduled to publicly present the Constitutional Instrument on the creation of the six new regions namely North East, Ahafo region, Western North, Savannah and Oti from today, Tuesday, February 12, 2019.

In a statement signed by Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the President will host the delegations this week beginning on the 12th, 13th and 15th of February.

“Delegations comprising Chiefs and people of the new regions have been invited to the Jubilee House in Accra for the official ceremonies,” the statement said.

Ahead of the official announcement of various towns as regional capitals, there has been some agitation from towns insisting that they are better placed and have all the resources to make them regional capitals.

But Mr Ntim in a statement said after painstaking efforts it will be unfortunate that the selection of the regional capitals will cause disunity.

“Some of us supported and fought hard for the creation of the new regions because we believe in the benefits that will accrue to the people in terms of development sooner or later.

“Irrespective of which towns will be selected, it is my strong belief that in terms of development, the government will adopt and apply measures that will ensure that the much-anticipated development is equitably distributed throughout the respective regions.”
