The coordinator for the Okyeman Women Empowerment Program (OWEP) who doubles as the Queen of all the grandchildren of Okyenhene, Ahenenanahemaa Nana Akosua Buor Gyankroma in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, has revealed that no individual in the cooperative, not even the queens would single handedly handle the cooperative’s money.

According to her, the structures that would be put in place would forbid even the queens to handle the money for the group and that will help in avoiding misappropriation of the group’s fund.

She made these revelations on Saturday, 9th March 2019 at Kyebi when OWEP organized a cooperative training for all the queen mothers in Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area.

According to her, the cooperative becomes a legal entity and officers would be elected to run and coordinate the day to day activities of the group so she believes with the structures and the conditions, no one can mishandle the group’s fund.

“The cooperative becomes a legal entity and we elect executives for the group including those who would handle the money. There would also be laws and regulations to guide the use of the money so no one can embezzle the fund”, Nana Akosua Buor Gyankroma said.

She further said that the cooperative though involves the queen mothers, these queen mother’s would not handle the money and they are only there to give advice to the women in the various cooperatives in their towns, communities and villages.

“And the queens will not handle any money. They are helping to put structures in place to help the cooperative. They will only give advice but members of the cooperative will handle their own money” Ahenenanahemaa Nana Akosua Buor Gyankroma added.

Finally she said before any dime gets out of the cooperative, all the members would be aware and the kind of project by which the money is being used for would never elude any of them.

The workshop was fully represented by the queen mothers in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, chaired by the queen mother of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, and saw representatives from National Cooperative Union and representatives from MASLOC as the resource personnel.
