“In the course of the exercise, a large crowd of the youth started vandalizing officers of the Municipal Assembly, Power Distribution Services (PDS) and vital installations close to these offices with dangerous implements including rocks, machetes and wooden sticks.”

“The irate youth refused to listen to persuasive words from the Police for them to stop the vandalism, instead, they charged on the Police Officers and five others sustained injuries in the process.”

Police account said that “necessary application of force” had to be introduced to restore law and order.

The police subsequently called for reinforcement to beef up security in the area which helped to disperse the mob.

DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Eastern Regional Public Affairs Director who signed the Police statement called on the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
