National Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress, Dr Hannah Louisa Bissiw has stated categorically that, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has drastically embarrassed Ghanaian women globally with the comments he made during the ‘Women Deliver Conference’ in Canada.
She noted that president Akufo-Addo’s statement on Ghanaian women having done a little to deserve national decision-making place is non-factual and a huge disgrace to women who have attained higher heights in life.
Addressing the media in a press conference to combat what President Akufo-Addo said in Canada, she averred that the president could have used such an opportunity to showcase Ghanaian women’s unique, social, cultural corporate and political leadership skills to the world instead of spewing insults and abusing women verbally on such a staunch platform.
Dr Bissiw noted that, a portion of Akufo-Addo’s statement in Canada was wrongly spelt out, stating that, the president exhibited total ignorance during the conference.

She also said, “our president’s talk comments have done to the old-age struggle for female empowerment in Ghana. Elsewhere, such comments from president Akufo-Addo could kill the spirit and soul of gender empowerment activism”.
She further said the president is rather reinforcing gender stereotypes that have long been abandoned, hence, rekindling the sense of patriarchy that is already entrenched in the Ghanaian society.
The NDC Women’s Organizer called on the president to render unqualified apology to all women in the country for the peace and tranquillity to prevail.
President Akufo-Addo during a conference in Canada dubbed “Women Deliver” made some intriguing comments that women activists in the country have frowned upon.
He said, “We are not seeing enough dynamism and activism on the part of those who are seeking. I am talking about dynamism where it matters…electing people to Parliament, controlling political parties because they are the instruments by which our societies make decisions.
“We are talking about decisions, not wishes and hopes, we are talking about decisions that are going to make the difference,” President Akufo-Addo added.
