A 26-year-old man has been crashed to death at Abandze on the Winneba –Cape Coast highway.

Godfred Klutse Jepha who was riding a motorbike registered M-18-GE 1225, was said to be overtaking a vehicle ahead of him at a sharp curve when he lost control and crashed a Mitsubishi Pajero.

Eyewitnesses said he was flung in the air before making a sickening landing on the asphalt surface of the busy highway Saturday morning, dying instantly. His helmet broke into pieces due to the impact.

Driver of the vehicle, a Mitsubishi Pajero registered GS 83-Y, sustained various degrees of injuries and was rushed to Saltpond Government Hospital.

One witness, John Mensah, told our correspondent Kwame Kakraba that but for the over speeding by the motor rider, the accident would have been avoided.

According to him, some drivers Jepha overtook earlier on the road before the accident, claimed the motor rider, who was heading towards Cape Coast was over speeding.

He said just around the curve where the accident happened, the motor rider attempted to overtake a vehicle ahead of him on top speed, but just then the Pajero which was moving towards Accra appeared.

“The Pajero driver attempted to move to the shoulder of the road to give way to the bike rider but the rider lost control and crashed into the Pajero, which burst a front tire in the driver side causing it to also lose control,” Mr Mensah told our correspondent.

The front left side of the Pajero was mangled leaving the windscreen and one of the headlights shuttered.

The rider’s phone, the witnesses said, had its glass screen crashed hence could not get a contact from it to call any relative or close associate.

They, however, found on him a 2012 voter’s ID card with the name Godfred Klutse Jepha.

His body has since been taken from the scene and deposited at the Saltpond Government Hospital morgue.
