Abuakwa North: We Need Ambulance, Accident Referrals Are Dying – Hospital Management Appeals

The management of Hawa Memorial Hospital, Osiem in the Abuakwa North Municipal in the Eastern Region, has pleaded to the general public, Non governmental Organizations, the Member of Parliament for the Constituency and the District Chief Executive as well as all stakeholders, as a matter of emergency to come to their aid in securing an ambulance to help reduce the death of accident victims.

In a phone interview on the Mid- day News,”Kasiebo Wo Krum” on Radio 1FM with the administrator of the hospital, Mr Jones Asamoah, he revealed that the hospital is the nearest health delivery centre to the Bunso- Koforidua Highway and the Bunso -Kumasi Highway of which they have recorded numerous road accidents in the year under review owing to the fact that these two Highways are accident prone areas in the country.

He again stated that the unavailability of ambulance to respond to medical emergency leads to the lost of lives by some of the accident victims.

“In 2017, we recorded thirty one (31) accident cases of which twelve (12) were referred and nine (9) losing their lives… we had a shot up the following year with forty (40) cases of which seventeen (17) were referred, and twelve (12) lost their lives” he said.

“The hospital has been working hard to save lives ”

“Not only do we attend to patients we admit here but also receive referrals also from nearby clinics and health centres and our doctors who are specialized in bone related cases attend to them. However, we refer conditions beyond us to Koforidua Regional Hospital and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital”, he added.

According to him, the hospital needs support from all angles from the general public to acquire an ambulance to save more lives because some of the lost lives could be prevented if they had ambulance.

Dr Adusei, one of the medical Doctors of the renowned hospital in the eastern region also added that they would need other clinical or medical equipments like stretchers, Screens, etc to help boost their medical delivery.

Hawa memorial Hospital is one of the CHAG hospitals in Ghana and has been prudently rendering their services to the people of Abuakwa North municipal and it’s environs since 2008.
