Residents of Akyem Hemang in the Fanteakwa south district in the eastern region has on Monday July 15 2019 mounted a heap of pressure on the Akufo-Addo led ruling NPP government, Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, Minerals Commission and other entities concerned with ensuring sanity in mining regulations in the country to as a matter of urgency come to their aid to halt all ongoing irresponsible mining and logging in their community and the environs.
In a well attended Press conference organised by a joint group of Hemang, Dome and Gyampomani, at Akyem Hemang on the 15th of July 2019, residents seized the opportunity to register their displeasure on the current destruction of forest reserve and water bodies in the area.
Addressing the media, the assembly member of Hemang Hon. Johnson Appiah Asare took turn to spew the heart of the residents and revealed that their forefathers have vehemently kicked against mining irresponsibly in the community so as their current chief and for that matter they stand with their chief and appeal to the government to halt the menace currently ongoing.
He again revealed that the Dome Mining Company and Gyampomani mining company (the two mining companies currently mining in the area) have all abused the mining rules and regulations. However, they suspect a strong force among the NPP executives in the region are behind the mining companies and for that matter has muted the DCE which in turn makes him show no effort in fighting the canker.

The youth leader of Hemang also took chance to disclose that it is alleged that based on the consistent opposition of irresponsible mining by their adorable chief, Osabarima Mirrikkisi Apori Atta, there is this rumour that he is destooled but he used the opportunity to say that they (Hemang residents) still have and see him as their chief.
They used the opportunity to petition the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, the DCE, Hon. Ntori Adjabeng and other stakeholders involved.
