The Traditional authority of Akyem Anyinam in the Atiwa East District in the Eastern Region has called the government to come to their aid urgently to curb the ongoing illegal mining in the area by a section of the youth.
They expressed their grievances on how they had no feedback from the authorities they lodged complaints to.”We have called the District Chief Executive (DCE) among others but they do not mind us” said Frank Kwambena Tetey the Tufohene.

According to them, mining companies even though with the right permits ought to go through the right procedure and engagements before operating.
That not withstanding, they stressed on the ”galamsey” policy by Nana Akuffo Addo’s administration.
” we would involve ourselves if government fails us…we believe the government is against illegal mining” they aggressively stressed.

Galamsey activities across the regions of the country have destroyed the natural resources, including water, forests and lands.

The anti-galamsey campaign has attracted nation-wide support with the active engagement of the mass media, the clergy, some traditional authorities and the security agencies to save the environment from further degradation for the present and future generations.
