Lampard won three Premier League titles and the Champions League during his 13-year playing career with Chelsea, which ended in 2014, and he remains the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, scoring 2011 but today he signs for his former club as head coach.

The job will be only Lampard’s second in management, following his one-year stint at Derby County, who he took to the Championship Play-Off final last season, but he says he is ready for the challenge.

Lampard captained Chelsea to victory over Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final

“I am immensely proud to be returning to Chelsea as head coach,” Lampard told the club’s website.

“Everyone knows my love for this club and the history we have shared, however, my sole focus is on the job in hand and preparing for the season ahead. I am here to work hard, bring further success to the club and I cannot wait to get started.”
