“The One Village, One Dam Cannot Support Agriculture Here” – Farmer

A farmer in the Upper East Region, Andrews, has expressed disappointment in the ”One Village,One Dam” flagship policy implemented by the ruling party New Political Party (NPP).


In a phone interview on Radio One ‘s Susubiribi Morning Show, he aggressively stated that the programme should be tagged as ”One village,One Dugout” in the sense that it is not reliable for agricultural activities. He recommended that the government should initiate the policy at endemic areas instead of concentrating and targeting all the districts in the country.


According to him, comparing Lieutenant Ignatius Kutu Acheampong’s regime to the current supposed dams, it could be observed that the Northern Region not excluding the then Upper West and Upper East Region had good irrigation dams dams that boosted their agricultural produce.
”Chukeriga is a town between Sandema and Navorongo where one of the dams is built surprisingly the ”dugout” overflowed and flooded a nearby company, he added.


The ”One village, One dam is an initiative proposed by the New Political Party’s aimed at providing water for irrigation in the dry season particular in the northern part of the country to help provide sustain and maintain the quantum of food produced in the country.
