‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ Is Not Achievable – Commissioner General, GRA

The commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Mr Alex Kofi Nti has waded into the non payment of taxes by a section of the citizens of the country and has revealed that if citizens continue to evade payment of taxes, the president’s vision of sending Ghana Beyond Aid will elude us as a nation.
According to the commissioner, a large quantum of the informal sector evade payment of taxes.
Mr Emmanuel Kofi Nti made this disclosure in his address at the opening ceremony of a 2 day workshop for Private Newspaper Publishers Association Of Ghana (PRINPAG) on Saturday 10th August 2019 at the Capital View Hotel, Koforidua in the eastern region.
“In his desire to wean the country from aid dependence, the president has clearly stated his vision in the ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ agenda. This vision however, will elude us as a country if citizens continue to evade the payment of taxes”, Mr Kofi Nti asserted.

The two day workshop was themed as ‘Bringing the informal sector into the tax net – the role of the media.
The workshop discussed among other topics:
(1) The Significance of the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) (2) Penalties for Tax Evasion and the consequences for Nation-Building. (3) The impact of tax waivers on Ghana’s Economy. (4) Emerging Trends of Tax Administration and (5) iTaPS.
The commissioner general again revealed that Ghanaians must be ready to pay more taxes all because of the Free SHS policy.
Among other personalities at the workshop were the eastern regional minister cum Nkawkaw MP, Hon. Eric Kwakye Darfour, the GJA Chairman, Mr Affail Monney, etc.
