The President for the Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG), Andrew Edwin Arthur has revealed that it’s about time contemporary journalists specialized in a particular department or subject and report on than being jack of all trades but master of none.

Andrew Edwin Arthur believes some reportages need technical orientation in order to fully bring out what is needed to be heard.

In his opening address at the 2-day workshop organised 10th August 2019 at Koforidua for PRINPAG on the theme ‘Bringing the informal Sector Into The Tax Net – the role of the Media’, Edwin Arthur disclosed that it is often said that media practitioners have the responsibility of disseminating information to rally people for development but it is important to note that if the media could live up to the expectations, it is not just disseminating any information but relevant, credible and reliable information.

“And for the media to be relevant in this regard, specialization as a way of being able to educate the citizenry, the old way of journalism where journalists used to be jacks of all trades and master of none are no more relevant in contemporary media practice”, Edwin said.

According to him, specialization is the way to go, reasons being that; it will afford journalists the opportunity of acquiring the requisite knowledge to better appreciate the trend of issues in specific subject areas.

However, the workshop was honored by GRA executives and the eastern regional minister as well as other media practitioners in the nation.
