Exclusively, the Kyidomhene of Osino and the Chief of Staff to Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, the Paramount Chief of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Nana Twumasi Ankrah, has disclosed that as part of the 20 years anniversary of the enstoolment of Osagyefuo, the Kwaebibirem king will from September begin a tour to all the lands in Akyem Abuakwa and as an environmentalist, is poised at planting about 1,000,000 trees by end of 2019.
According to him, this initiative is to help restore the already damaged forest in the Akyem Abuakwa land by illegal miners and loggers.
In the exclusive interview with Radio 1FM 100.7MHZ, Nana Twumasi Ankra revealed that His Royal Majesty, Osagyefuo has grouped the towns and villages into 16 and will tour these 16 areas from September this year. He again said, each of the 16 communities are expected to plant 62,500 trees, 1,000,000 in all.
When asked as to how they would go about the tree planting, Chief of staff said they will liaise with the Municipal and District Chief executives together with the forestry commission in the various district to help realise the initiative.

That not alone, there would be series of congresses and conferences in October till it’s climaxed in December this year.
“One major conference among others will be the Environmental Sustainable Conference to dialogue on the Bauxite intended to be mined in Ghana and other mining activities and procedures in the area. There would be honorary awards which is termed as Okyeman Kanea to honour the most influential and productive child of Akyem Abuakwa. Not forgetting Presidential Golf tournament ” – he disclosed.
However, in his personal opinion just like that of Okyenhene, he kicked against the community mining and added that he can’t even distinguish between the ongoing illegal mining (galamsey) and the small scale mining because their activities are the same.
Meanwhile, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin has about a week ago said at the E/R GJA Awards night at Koforidua that he roots for planting for food and jobs initiative other than the community mining. He established his points by citing the unclaimed land left by the miners and have therefore become breeding places for mosquitoes thereby increasing malaria in the country.
This and other reasons why the traditional council embraces the Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery’s initiative of launching the tree planting project.
The Chief of staff ended by saying citizens of Akyem Abuakwa and Ghana as a whole should expect a more productive outline for the 20years anniversary of Okyenhene’s enstoolment.
