ER: Court Places Injunction On Boso Festival (Odweegyi)

The Omanhene of Boso Gua Traditional Area, Nana Osei Nyarko III has successfully secured a court injunction on the upcoming Odweegyi festival for the residents of the area.

In a writ summons available to Radio1News, the plaintiff, Nana Osei Nyarko (Omanhene of Gua Traditional Area) accuses three defendants; Sloopy Mike Gyamfi, Steve Opare – Obisaw and Osabarima Agyeman Oboashia Kumnipa for illegally making arrangements to celebrate the Odweegyi festival.

The plaintiff, spells out couple of reasons why he thinks the defendants do not have the right to hold such esteem festival and therefore pleaded with the court of competent jurisdiction to forbid them from making such arrangements for the program.

Nana Osei Nyarko III accuses the defendants for spreading falsehoods that he has been destooled and falsely portraying that the organisation of the Odweegyi festival was in consultation with the chiefs and elders of Boso.

However, the plaintiff revealed that the defendants have already started running advertisements on various media to further their sinister agenda and also soliciting for funds from unsuspecting individuals and organisations. That not alone, the 2nd defendant has submitted letters claiming to be the chairman of the National Council of Boso Communities directing them to pay money into an account at the Anum Rural Bank.

Plaintiff Claims

The plaintiff wherefore claims;

  1. Declaration that the plaintiff being the paramount chief of Boso is the rightful person to perform the Boso Odweegyi festival.
  2. Perpetual injunction refraining the defendants or the National Council of Boso communities, their agents, assigns, privies and representatives from celebrating the Odweegyi festival.
  3. An order of the court directed at the defendants to render full account of all funds collected so far for the celebration of the Odweegyi festival.
  4. Cost inclusive of legal fees.

The writ dated 27th September 2019, at Amoako Adjei Law Consult, Koforidua, commands the defendants to within 8 days including day of writ service to appear before the law court for judgment, otherwise, judgment would be given in their absence.

Nana Osei Nyarko III has also stated in the writ that he has been dutiful since his enstoolment on 20th September 2009 and as custom demands, he’s the right person to organise the Odweegyi festival.
