The National Democratic Congress(NDC) has disclosed that it will not pander to the whims and caprices of some Ghanaians by making public the contents of the Prof Kwesi Botchwey committee report.
According to the opposition party, it’s interests lies more in relieving Ghanaians from the hardship brought upon them by the current administration, rather than allow itself to be coerced by some of its members and the public into releasing the report.
Following the NDC’s abysmal performance in the 2016 general elections, a 13-member committee was formed, tasked to find out the cause(s) of the party’s defeat.
Then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2016 presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo surprisingly secured a resounding one-touch victory by polling 53.85% of total valid votes cast against incumbent NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama who managed 44.40%.

Given this backdrop, former Finance Minister Prof. Kwesi Botchwey toured the country meeting the grassroots members of the NDC.
After about six months of deliberations, the Committee chairman, Prof. Kwesi Botchwey presented its findings to the NDC leadership and recommended they embark on a healing tour to ensure a formidable party ahead of the 2020 general elections.
The party leadership has kept the report under lock and key which has generated a lot of controversy with many questioning why they even announced the formation of the committee when they knew their findings wasn’t going to be made public.
Speaking on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ program, Deputy General Secretary of the party, Peter Boamah Otukonor explained that the party is working to ensure victory 2020 for John Dramani Mahama, and not raking old wounds.
“What has releasing Kwesi Botchwey’s report got to do with Ghanaians? . . . It has become a working document for the party so if anybody wants a copy of the Kwesi Botchwey’s committee report they should take a critical look at how they are running the party in relation to election 2020,” he said.
