Kyebi was clad in red and black as a sign of danger, fury, anger, and of course problem at a time people thought a funeral for prominence, it was rather a day set by the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional council to stage the street, to register their displeasure against the largest opposition party in Ghana, NDC.
In a well attended press conference, which saw the presence of almost all the chiefs of Akyem land gather at eseho(forecourt of Ofori Panin fie) at Kyebi in the early hours of Monday, 23rd September 2019, one could see the fury in the eyes of residents and the traditional leaders.
In reading a speech at the press conference, the Okyenhene linguist, Antwi Bosiako said, In consequence of the deliberate attack on Okyenhene ” Nananom make the following pronouncements and demands on NDC that within 3 days;
- A direct, clear and unambiguous public apology be rendered by the leadership of NDC to his royal majesty the Okyenhene and Okyeman.
- A ritual pacification be performed to appease His royal majesty the Okyenhene.
- An apology rendered personally by Mr Kwame Zu to the Okyenhene and a public recantation of the offensive words and specific conduct complained off.

In view of the above, if the party fails within Tue stipulated time frame, NDC would be banned in the Akyem Abuakwa traditional area.

“If the fail to heed , the NDC, its ward executives, branch, constituency, regional and national executives will be banned from all functions organised under the auspices of the Ofori Panin stool and shall be declared persona non grata in all places of the over 940 towns, villages, and settlements in Akyem Abuakwa”, Okyeame Antwi Bosiako added.
Various chiefs took turns to register their displeasure against a comment made by the Ashanti regional secretary of NDC, one Kwame Zu to which the leadership of the traditional area find as an indictment on the Kwaebibirem chief, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin and a gross disrespect to Akyem Abuakwa.
However, in a speech delivered by the Okyenhene Kyeame, (Okyenhene’s linguist) Antwi Bosiako reads; “On Monday, 16th September 2019, at a protest march organised by the coalition for National Sovereignty in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional secretary of NDC, Mr Kwame Zu threw caution to the wind and in an arrogant display of bravado launched launched a blistering attack against the people of Akyem Abuakwa kingdom and the person of the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin. Customarily, one is estopped from repeating such scandalous words in public”.
He revealed that the current attack on Okyenhene has been preceded by other attacks from the leadership of NDC since 2013 when the then chief of staff Julius Deborah called the king all sorts of names. In 2014, former eastern regional chairman Tawiah Boateng and Haruna Appau poured unprinted attacks on Okyenhene. Same happened in 2015 and recently, a former presidential staffer, Mr Stanislav Dogbe joined the attacks on Okyenhene.
“The deliberate denigration, accusations and name calling reached the height of crescendo when in 2015, the then president and now flagbearer and leader of NDC described Kyebi as the headquarters of galamsey”, Antwi Bosiako added.
Setting the records straight
- Osagyefuo does not control the instruments of the Ghanaian state power.
- The Okyenhene was not responsible for the successes of President Akufo-Addo.
- Despite being the blood relation to the president, he is not desirous to make claims to the presidency.
