Government has set out a fund to finance carefully vetted business pitches of student entrepreneurs across various universities in Ghana.
Minister for Business Development, Dr Mohammed Awal, says this initiative falls under the maiden edition of the Campus Business Pitch where students in the coming days will be pitching their business ideas with seasoned entrepreneurs.
This initiative is aimed at stimulating the entrepreneurial mindset of young people to make them job creators and not job seekers. He tells JoyBusiness an amount of GH¢3 million has been invested in the program.
“We are looking at changing the mindset of our students from seeking jobs after university to creating jobs for themselves. This Campus Business Pitch is the first of its kind and will grant these students a great platform to be entrepreneurial and self-independent,” he told JoyBusiness.

The Minister further stated that the overall goal of the policy is to support economic growth through the development of entrepreneurship and innovation programmes that create more jobs, generate more income, and help to reduce poverty. The policy also aims to create and strengthen an entrepreneurial environment.
Employment data in Ghana
The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR) is working with stakeholders to streamline standards and centralize employment statistics generated within the productive sectors for effective reporting and targeting.
The ministry of employment and labour relations would ensure easy disaggregation and analysis of employment data by the Ministries, Departments and Agencies and the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies for use by policymakers towards national development planning.
