Disease Treatment and Prevention: Rotary Clubs Organise Free Medical Screening For Hundreds Of Ashaley Botwe Residents

The Rotary clubs of Accra Legon-East, Accra- Adijiriganor and the Rotaract Club of Accra-East organised a free medical screening for the residents of Ashaley Botwe last Saturday.

The exercise was held at the Nii Ashaley Health Centre in the Presbyterian Calvary Congregation Churchyard.

The Project Director, Rtn KB Akosa said the free screening which included the enrollment and renewal of National health insurance for children and the elderly is one of the club’s areas of focus; Disease treatment and prevention.

He noted that people in deprived communities tend to be prone to diseases, hence the free health screening to know their various ailments and assist in treatment.

The head nurse of the host facility, Mrs. Letitia Tetteh.
educated the attendees on the importance of living healthy lifestyles and personal hygiene.

Residents were also educated on family planning and received free Male and female condoms.

Rotarian KB encouraged residents to do regular screening to ensure that they stayed in good health at all times instead of waiting to have symptoms before seeking medical care.

The President of the club of Accra Legon East, Rotarian President Pamela Batiir mentioned that this is the second time the club is organising a free health screening for the residents of Ashaley Botwe.
She urged the community , especially the aged, to undergo periodic medical check-ups to know their health status to prevent them from falling ill.

The screening was undertaken with permission from the AdMA directorate,support from the Presbyterian Calvary Congregation Church, Nii Ashaley Health Centre and other partners such as Danadams Pharmaceuticals Industry Limited and the Ghana Aids Commission.

The screening team was made up of Doctors, Nurses , Lab technicians and other Health Workers.

The over 500 community members that turned up for the event were screened of various health conditions such as diabetes, blood pressure, hepatitis B, malaria, syphilis and HIV. Residents were also dewormed.

Since October is breast cancer awareness month, all female attendees were opportuned to have their breast screened and examined.

Drugs were administered on those tested with minor infections while serious cases were referred to Ogbojo Polyclinic, for further treatment after the exercise.
