The founder of Philip Foundation, Mr Philip Boateng has waded into the advocacy of medical and industrial legalisation of marijuana (‘Ganja’ or ‘wee’) and has revealed that government must also be prepared to build a lot of psychiatric hospitals to absorb its consequences should they intend to conform to the advocacy.

According to him, the use of marijuana has more implications than its benefits especially when it is unregulated.

In a phone interview with Nana Kwabena Addo on the Susubiribi morning show on Radio 1fm 100.7MHZ on Monday October 21 2019, he disclosed that people are already sneaking (illegally) to abuse the drugs and the consequences are in palpable glare of the nation.

“Legalising the use of ‘wee’ will cause more mayhem in the country. Crime rate is going to shoot high. School going pupils will abuse it. The youth will overwhelmingly abuse it and a lot of people will have mental problems. Legalise it today and be prepared to build more psychiatric hospitals”- Philip Boateng posited.

According to him, there are a lot of resources that the nation can generate money from other than resorting to ‘Ganja’ for revenue generation. He said, if the natural resources like Cocoa, Timber, Oil, etc. cannot provide us with the required revenue, what then can ‘wee’ do?

“Compare the benefits Cocoa and oil to the country. So we shouldn’t look only at the economic benefit because if you put on scale, legalising Ganja will cause more harm than the benefits. It is a parochial way of looking at it that it will generate a lot of revenue”- Philip Boateng added

He therefore advised government to have thorough interrogation on the advocacy before taking a decision.
