As the world marks today as mental health day, the attention of Radio 1 News has been drawn to a mentally challenged woman, Mansah, going round in search of her 3 month old baby in Akuse in the eastern region.

Information available to Radio1News indicate that the woman (Mansah) gave birth to a bouncing baby girl at home (Lawehkope, a village near Asutuare junction of Shai Osudoko) on July 4th 2019 but later took the baby to Akuse Government hospital for health care.

According to sources within the Akuse Government Hospital, Mansah (Mentally Challenged woman) went to sleep at the Out Patient Department (OPD) in the night with her baby but they didn’t interrogate her because that’s where most patient relatives sleep since the hospital has no place for them.
In the morning she was still there so they decided to question why she was still sleeping at the time OPD has started work.
Then she said her daughter was sick and was bringing her to the hospital. But upon further questioning they realized she was rather the sick person and called the psychiatry unit to handle the case.

The baby(Gifty Alifey) was taken away from her. Where is she (baby – Gifty Alifey) now?

Mansah has now realised her baby is not with her so she went home and couldn’t find her and has returned to the hospital for her baby where she was again directed to a nearby community and it appears Mansah wants her child at all cost.

So where is Gifty Alifey? Stay tuned as Radio1News is keenly following the issue and would update you on any development!
