Jack Dorsey, the co-founder and CEO of social media service, Twitter, and mobile payments company, Square, has in a tweet confirmed his arrival to Ghana.

Dorsey made the announcement today, November 11 on his official Twitter account with the caption; “Hello Ghana” accompanied by an emoji of the Ghanaian flag.

Expected to arrive with other Twitter executives, Dorsey first visited Ethiopia and Nigeria and is expected to be on the continent for the whole of November to meet with local entrepreneurs.

Dorsey earlier posted a tweet regarding his visit last month saying Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa are the countries he plans to visit during his time in Africa.

One of the many speculations is that Dorsey plans to introduce his mobile payment company Square to various entrepreneurs and the African market.

Twitter was launched in 2006 and rapidly gained worldwide popularity.

In 2012, more than 100 million users posted 340 million tweets a day and a year after that it emerged as one of the top-ten most visited websites in the world.

In 2018, it was estimated that some 9.2 million Ghanaians are said to have access to mobile internet and a huge number of them are ardent social media users.

Internet penetration in Ghana is quite high with more new users getting connected every day.

This indicates an opportunity for internet businesses and that perhaps explains why the internet entrepreneur will consider Ghana to visit and interact with its entrepreneurs.
