Black Meteors head coach, Ibrahim Tanko, seems to have placed his team’s dreams of making it to the 2020 Olympic Games in the hands of non-footballing elements like hope after losing 3-2 to Egypt on Monday.

The Meteors threw away two leads on the night after Yaw Yeboah and Samuel Obeng put Ghana 1-0 and 2-1 up respectively.

The result leaves the Meteors on one point after two matches and they will have to get a result against Mali on Thursday if the Olympic dream will come to fruition and Tanko says that the trip to Japan is now not in their hands but they will need to rely on Egypt for some help and hope.

“We played a great game but lost in the end, this is football. I congratulate Egypt on qualifying. We will play to win against Mali and hope for a favorable result from Egypt match against Cameroon.”

For Ghana to qualify from the group, they will have to beat Mali by a good scoreline to get a positive goal difference while hoping for Egypt to beat Cameroon by a scoreline that leaves the Cameroonians on a negative goal difference.

Should that happen, Ghana will get the edge on two grounds:

1- goal difference after all their group matches

2- total number of goals in all group matches
