The leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has only a few hours to publicly outdoor the party’s choice of a running mate to partner the 2020 flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, or risk seeing the wind taken out of their sails regarding that announcement.
Ashanti Regional Chairman for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako has given former President John Mahama, National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, an ultimatum on the announcement of a Running Mate for the 2020 general elections.
According to him, failure on the part of the leadership of the NDC to declare who partners Mr Mahama, within 24hours, will compel him (Wontumi) to do so on behalf of the largest opposition party.
Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Chairman Wontumi hinted that he knows for sure who the NDC has settled on as running mate to former President John Mahama.

“The only message I have for John Mahama, Ofosu Ampofo and Asiedu Nketiah is that they should outdoor their Running Mate and if they don’t, I will announce the Running Mate for them. I have given them few hours to do that…I know their Running Mate for 2020 elections just as when they were conducting their elections to choose their leaders, I predicted the kind of leaders they will select”, he asserted.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP further dared the leadership of the NDC to outdoor the party’s manifesto for the 2020 general election, if the opposistion party claims to be prepared for this year’s general polls.
“I will bring NDC’s manifestos from 2008, 2012, and 2016 and begin to punch holes by asking why they couldn’t do all the things they promised to do when they had the opportunity to run the country; then we will compare Nana Akufo-Addo’s manifesto with theirs and I will punch holes and the NDC will know the level of intelligence I possess in politics”, he dared.
He, however, believed the NDC’s Presidential Candidate, Mr. Mahama, out of fear of losing face has decided to keep his manifesto away from the probing eyes of Ghanaians.
“Because of this, John Mahama is afraid to bring his manifesto out. One year to the 2016 election, NPP boldly came out to announce that we will introduce Free SHS, Restore Teacher Trainee and Nursing Trainee allowances. We promised to end ‘dumsor’, give employment to the youth and we have introduced NaBCo and we boldly announced many policies like 1D1F, 1V1D; but now, 10 months into the election, what is the policy driving John Mahama’s campaign? He has nothing to say”, he indicated.
