The former ambassador to UK under the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama’s administration, H.E. Ambassador Victor Smith, has sent a strong warning to the electoral commission and the government in power never to attempt conniving to rig the election come Dec. 7 2020.
In a one-on-one interview with Citizen Kofi Wusu on Adekye mu Nsem on Ahotor Fm 92.3, the NDC stalwart alleged that the ruling NPP is training tugs to cause mayhem in the upcoming poll.
The outspoken member of the biggest opposition party in Ghana was optimistic in his submission that there is something under the sleeves of NPP and the electoral commission ahead of the December 7 general election for which reason the electoral commission has failed to come out to react to the allegations that the voter register is not credible.
“We are warning them that if they are planning to rig the election so that ordinary Ghanaians would not vote based on their state of living? You want to rig the election so that we don’t have our choice then you are bringing problem. Don’t attempt to rig” – Victor Smith said

Moreover, he added that “the idea of going to bring a new voter register, Jean Mensah EC chair has failed to answer to whether it is credible or not credible. People are asking just simple question and you can’t answer. Yes she can’t answer because she will be in trouble if she answers. If she says it is credible then the question is why are you doing a new one? If she answers not credible then all the elections she supervised are not credible.”
That not withstanding, Ambassador Victor Smith is of the view that people are behind doing a new voter register because of their personal interests.
“There is a problem here. Just like the printing of the new money, someone wants something to be done or a new equipment to be brought in so they go and make the noise that we need a new register. We are not happy about it because we believe they want to manipulate the system for the 7th December election”
Again, he revealed that the president of Ghana goes round preaching to people and the big parties to come together to disband the vigilante groups meanwhile they are busily training foot-soldiers for the upcoming general election.
The Electoral commission will commence compiling a new voter register in April 2020 even as the NDC have protested on numerous times against it
