General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has stated that his name has popped up in the galamsey issues because most of the youth in his party are interested in getting jobs in the mining areas, hence they seek his help.
“I’m associated with galamsey issues because of my position as General Secretary; a lot of people including legal small-scale miners come to me for help,” he said.
John Boadu was reacting to claims that he is involved in galamsey. A pledge by the president to fight this canker in order to protect the environment which is gradually being destroyed by the activities of illegal miners, has clearly failed after three years as galamsey rivers such as Pra are still muddy brown.
Mr Boadu’s name came up in a leaked conversation between the former Central Region Vice-Chairman of NPP, Horace Ekow Ewusie and the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.
In the leaked video making rounds on social media, Ewusie allegedly said that he went to the Minister’s office with the General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, with a request of mining illegally so that the proceeds would be used to support the NPP.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng is heard allegedly agreeing to their request and giving his party folk the green light to engage in galamsey.
John Boadu noted in a report by myafricatoday.net that, the litany of allegations by the NDC are expected and that the opposition party is like the kettle calling the pot black “because their track record is horrible.”
The NPP scribe said the NDC is making all the noise about the galamsey issue because they have been choked with the “stinky Airbus bribery scandal.”
“Why won’t the NDC make noise because the Airbus scandal has really affected them so they want to use this to cover up,” he stressed.
