In this critical moment, where all political parties, NGOs and other benevolents are doing good for all irrespective of political affiliations and gains, the member of Parliament for Fanteakwa South constituency in the eastern region, Hon. Okyere Kofi Agyekum (aka Arafat) is accused of abandoning his constituents by doing virtually nothing to fight the deadly pandemic coronavirus.

It is alleged that the MP has given ₵500 and a filled gas cylinder to 360 delegates in order to win their supports to his bid to maintain the seat as the parliamentary candidate for the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

The total amount is ₵180,000.00 for the cash gift excluding the filled gas cylinders.

Mr Mark Okraku therefore demands the Hon. MP to as a matter of urgency use his share of the MPs common fund to help them with Veronica buckets, hand sanitiser, tissues and other essentials needed to fight this deadly disease.

In a press release from the camp of the chairman of the Fanteakwa south NDC, signed by the chairman, Mr Mark Okraku, it is revealed that Hon. Arafat is rather focussing on his election rather than doing what is good for the entire constituency.

Below is the press release from the Fanteakwa south NDC;

For Immediate Release

NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS – FANTEAKWA SOUTH CONSTITUENCY

Fighting COVID-19, Fanteakwa South MP should be fair to the people

The CODVID-19 global pandemic which has affected most of the countries has affected Ghana too. As at today Sunday 5th April, 2020, those who have been tested positive have reached two hundred and fourteen (214). This worrying situation calls for immediate measures and assistance from each and everyone especially those in authorities who control the state resources.
In the light of this, it was unpleasant to hear that the member of Parliament for Fanteakwa South Hon. Kofi Agyekum has given a filled LPG cylinder and five hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢500.00) each to the NPP polling station executives in the constituency totaling three hundred and sixty (360) to take care of themselves this period in curtailing the spread of COVID-19. Even though it may be a kind gesture to his party members, we see it as unfortunate since he ignored the majority of the people in the constituency.
Fanteakwa South district assembly has placed some items like Veronica buckets, tissue and liquid soap in some of the communities in the district which we see it a good effort to help the district but it is still not enough. For instance a community like Dwenase which has a population of about two thousand people was given only one point of call to wash our hands. That means, one Veronica bucket, soap and tissue.
By this release, we are calling on the MP to use part of his common fund to support the masses other than the selected few.
Moreover, we are also appealing to all other individuals to support the fight against the Corona virus by giving the people hand sanitizers and enough hand washing “equiments”.

Signed
Mark Okraku Tenkorang

(Constituency Chairman)
