Covid-19: World Health Organization Corroborates NDC’s Proposed ‘Decentralized Approach’

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has revealed that African countries battling the novel COVID-19 pandemic must adopt a tailored, comprehensive decentralized approach and mechanism to nib the spread of the disease in the bud.
Updated reports in Africa have confirmed about 10,000 cases of the pandemic, with South Africa, South Sudan and Zimbabwe are leapfrogging countries within the subregion which are endemic by the coronavirus.
In a tweet by the Africa director for the World Health Organisation, Dr. Matshidiso Meoti on April 7, 2020 noted that # _covid 19 cases in # Africa have risen to more than 10,000. The statement said!
However, Ghana has recorded about 408 cases of the COVID-19, with 8 deaths, amid a partial lockdown, in selected regions which have been forecasted as possible flash points in the country.

In these areas, the virus has the tendency to strive on widespread, if human and vehicular movements are not curtailed or restricted by government, and in conjunction with technical advise from the Ghana Medical Association.
The Greater Accra Region, Ashanti, Tema, as well as parts of Kasoa in the Central region are among key regions, defined as epicentres where movements have been restricted, in an attempt to check the spread of the virus.
The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by the National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, together with some members of the party’s COVID-19 technical team, and political parties in the country honoured invitation by President Akufo Addo to deliberate on measures, and viable methodologies needed to deal with the pandemic, which has halted most of the country’s socio-economic activities.
At the said jubilee House encounter, the National Chairman, Hon Samuel Ofosu Ampofo justified the need to include chiefs and opinion leaders, as well as MMDAs into the affairs of the COVID-19 management and operational orders.
Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo used the presidential engagement to underscore the importance and role of the traditional authorities in crisis management.
He stressed the need to consider proposals which seek to integrate chiefs in the decentralisation system in the country, in view of curbing the virus.
The NDC presented a working document, and blueprint on COVID-19 as well as the mitigation measures which ought to be adopted by the Akufo Addo led government in the wake to neutralise the spread of the pandemic.
The prepositions by the Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, and leadership of the NDC, to include chiefs (Nananom) into the structure of the COVID-19 taskforce, is an affirmation of the roles and unwavering commitment by the main opposition party towards ensuring the coronavirus is eradicated from the confines of the country.
Former President John Dramani Mahama, recently donated Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) to the tune of ¢390,000 to some major hospitals and district health posts across the country. Key among these health facilities were the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, as well as isolation centres within some municipal and metropolitan areas.
The NDC National Executives, led by the National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, including members of the technical team of covid 19 in the party, have also made similar donations and distributed PPEs to major town, communities and cities to empathise with the Town folks, and residents living in and around the suburbs where restrictions have been enforced by the security agencies.
The World Health Organisation has noted that for countries within the sub region to win the fight against the coronavirus, they must enshrine the doctrine of decentralization into the operational manual by affected countries of the disease to deal expeditiously with the Pandemic respectively.
