The fanteakwa North district in the eastern region has confirmed their first case of the deadly covid-19 pandemic which brings the total case in the region to 32 and 566 in Ghana as a whole with 8 death and 4 recoveries.
In a phone interview with the fanteakwa north district health director, Mrs Nana Asor Boateng, she confirmed to Nana Gyasi of Radio1News that the patient is a 55 year old man and sells mango in one of the villages in the district.
According to her, the 55 year old man had earlier this year reported to the Begoro government hospital to be treated with pneumonia and discharged but came back last week and his condition made them take his sample of blood to Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) and they confirmed it is positive.
“Yes he is a Ghanaian. A 55 year old man who reported at the hospital with pneumonia was admitted and contained but after a day his temperature increased so the hospital management alerted me when they suspected covid-19 so we made arrangement and took his sample to Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) and they have confirmed to us that he is positive.” – Nana Asor Boateng disclosed.

She later said they have put measures in place to contain the disease so all the medical staff that attended to her have been quarantined including the patients that were in the same ward with him.
“the man has no history of travel so we’ll be doing contact tracing but as we speak all the nurses that attended to him have be quarantined since there were not enough PPEs including all the patients in his ward. The ward has now been converted to an isolation ward. We are putting measures in place not to spread the virus” Nana Asor Boateng added
Moreover, she said there are a lot of people who escaped the Accra, Kumasi lockdown and believes some are hiding in the the district.
She used the opportunity to assure the residents to stay calm since the situation is under control.
