We Are Ready For Covid-19 Fight – Fanteakwa South Health Directorate

The district health director for fanteakwa south district in the eastern region, Mr Attuahene Agyemang has revealed that the fanteakwa south district has put up adequate measures to combat the novel coronavirus pandemic even though none has been confirmed in the eastern region.

According to the hardworking director, they are prepared to deal with any outbreak in the district should any is reported.

He made this revelation in a phone interview on Radio 1FM 100.7MHZ when discussion measures put in place by the district to fight the virus.

Mr Attuahene disclosed that they have recieved enough PPEs and have set aside a room for isolation for suspected cases.

“We are very much prepared to fight the coronavirus. Though we have had suspected cases here but all of them proved negative and we have put in place measures to deal with it. We have formed a committee on it, ‘rapid response team’ of which the DCE is the chairman. So far we have received medical supplies from different entities including world vision and what we have also procured to fight the virus. Last year, world vision built a health center for us at Saamang so we have allocated a room there that would be used as an isolation center. You know we dont have a district hospital so we will take blood samples of suspected cases, forward them to regionals and then to Accra for confirmation but i must tell you that we are prepared, ready to fight the virus.” – Mr Attuahene revealed.

He added that there are plans to do public education in the market places in with regards to observing social distances and practicing other hygiene protocols. Again they have engaged all the assembly members and would move to all lorry stations for sensitization programs.

SITUATION UPDATE, CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASES IN GHANA AS AT 31ST MARCH 2020, 15:00HRS

As at 31 st March 2020, 15:00 hrs, nine (9) new cases of COVID-19 have been reported from NMIMR since the last update at 08:30hrs on 30th March 2020. All nine (9) were reported from Accra, three (3) of them travelled to Ghana within the past 14 days from Germany, France and Hungary respectively but for six (6) of them there is no history of travel outside.

The Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR) also reported on tests from 77 samples including samples from 41 asymptomatic contacts of a case from Tamale Teaching Hospital and all are NEGATIVE for COVID-19.

This brings up to a total of 161 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ghana, including five (5) deaths as of 31 st March 2020 at 15:00Hr.

Three (3) of the confirmed cases have fully recovered and reverted to negative status for COVID-19 after repeat test following recovery from symptoms. As at 31st March 2020, additional thirty-one (31) confirmed cases have significantly improved with no symptoms and have been discharged from admission for home care pending repetition of laboratory tests. This adds to the 18 that were earlier being managed from home and bring the number of cases on home care to forty-nine (49).

Processes for enhanced contact tracing and laboratory testing have been initiated. A total of 1,185 contacts have been identified and are being followed up.
