A 35 year Old Man Drowns In River Birim

A body of a 35 year old man is retrieved from River Birim at Anyinam in the Atiwa East District in the eastern region.

The deceased whose name was given as Yaw Nkansah was reported to have drowned on sunday May 24 2020 but on monday morning, a team of local divers supervised by the NADMO coordinator for Atiwa East went on thorough search only to find the man dead inside river birim.

The late Yaw Nkansah was a bush meat seller at Anyinam and was not married. In an interview with residents and eyewitnesses, they revealed that the late Yaw Nkansah on his way home decided to go swim in the Birim river where he met his unfortunate death. A resident claimed the deceased was part of Train – Crossing operating on the Birim river.

Incidents of drowning is very common in Atiwa East communities as hundreds of illegal miners, children, women and farmers have been drowning in abandoned and mining pits covered with water.
