The Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly, has despite the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, been able to raise 31% revenue of their annual budget as at May ending 2020.

This was revealed by the municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Kojo Ofori-Safo when addressing the first ordinary meeting of the first session of the eighth Assembly of the Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly on Friday June 26 2020.

“With regard to finance, particularly IGF, the blessings and assistance of our Hon. M.P. Hon. Atta Akyea and Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, we have ensured that we have not done badly at all as the figures below depict: IGF Budgeted                     Actuals as at May 31st, 2020                      % Collected

We would all agree that we have done quite well despite all the challenges that we have faced so far.” – Hon. Kojo Ofori-Safo revealed.

Usually, IGF collection in the 1st quarter is not easy at all because people would have still been recovering from the ‘January blues’ but it starts picking up from the 2nd quarter. COVID-19 has also taken a toll on Revenue generation as businesses have suffered as a result of restrictions on movement.

However, the hardworking MCE added that “given what we have been able to generate as IGF in the month of June alone, we will surely exceed what has been budgeted as our half year target. We are also confident that we can exceed our annual budget like we did in 2019 fiscal year.”

Moreover, he disclosed that the assembly has put in place a strategic plan to further improve the IGF performance and it includes the under listed:

1.     Retooling our Revenue Collectors

2.     Intensification of activities of Revenue Task Force

3.     Training of Revenue Collectors

4.     Efficient utilization of an Electronic Billing System after resolving initial teething challenges

5.     Expansion of Revenue Base.

The MCE concluded that Management has also terminated all agreements for the collection of institutional rates by private contractors in order to avoid the payment of high commissions to them. By collecting such rates directly, the assembly would be able to make savings and increase revenue.

Almost all Assembly members were present together with the Municipal coordinating director, Mrs Vera Akuffo Mante, the municipal Director of Education, Mrs Grace Owusua Addo, amongothers dignitaries.
