The Gyaasehene of Boso Gua traditional Area in the Asuogyaman district in the eastern region, Oseadeey) Nana Adu Kwaku II has asked the general public especially indegenes of Boso, home and abroad to disregard the alleged cultivation of cannabis on the Boso land.

According to the elite chief, the said publication that links the supposed farm to Boso is inaccurate in that readers and consumers of the publication should disregard it as it denigrates the reputation of law-abiding citizens of Boso.

In an interview with Oseadeey) Nana Adu Kwaku II, he revealed to Nana Gyasi of Radio 1 that, on behalf of the Traditional Council and the good people of Boso, he demands an immediate clarification on the said reportage from the Ghana Police Service and the Narcotic control Board.

“It’s rather unfortunate to link Boso to the illegal cultivation of cannabis. Indigenes of Boso are law abiding in the community and we wouldn’t fall foul from the law at any point in time. What you need to know is that Boso shares boundary with the Volta Region and the said cultivation is in the farmland of the towns Boso shares boundaries with. However, the police couldn’t get any route from the other communities and therefore passed through Boso to the farm. The said farm is not on Boso land so we want the Ghana Police to come back to clear the air that the said farm in not on Boso land” – the Gyaasehene maintained.

Moreover, he asked that authorities provide enough education on the legalization of the cultivation of a variety of cannabis for industrial and pharmaceutical use and added that if the area is a safe haven for the cultivation of that species, then government should use all the legal means to farm that species in the area.

That not alone, Oseadeey) Nana Adu Kwaku II said due to lack of employment in Boso, rural urban migration is on the increase i.e. the youth are compelled to leave to the cities in search for greener pastures.

Background

It was reported last week that it took the joint operation by the National and regional drug law operation unit of the criminal investigation department (CID), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams and the Peki Divisonal Police Command to raid the enclave.

According to the team, the enclave is nestled between Peki and Boso around Tome mountains and measures hundreds of acres. The team led by Supt. David Selorm, the director in charge of the drug law enforcement unit at the CID, took 60 police personnel to the enclave and could only destroy about 20% of the entire plantation. Each plantation is demarcated with rows of corn. Hamlets were erected on the plantation to serve as shelter for the farmers.

The police therefore arrested two farmers and have promised to embark on thorough investigations to get hold of the culprits and let the law take its cause. However, the police entreat all interested in the cannabis cultivation to use all the required legal means to obtain permit for the cultivation.
