Atiwa East: Assembly Disburses Items Worth ₵78,677 To Persons With Disability

Scores of Persons with Disability in the Atiwa East District in the eastern region have today received varieties of items worth ₵78, 677 according to the choices of the beneficiaries.

The ceremony came of today, July 2 2020 at the premises of the Atiwa East District Assembly which was graced by the district chief executive, Hon. Lawyer Kwabena Panin, the social welfare director Mrs Cynthia Klu, and other staff of the assembly and social welfare.

Speaking at the ceremony, the DCE urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items they received. He revealed that some received physical cash while others benefits were used to foot their health bills and school fees.

Aside that the items disbursed include but not limited to; Deep freezers with ice chests, provisions to start provision stores, Laptop for the blind, Industrial Machines, Pop Corn machines, Hot drinks etc.

The social welfare director Mrs Cynthia Klu advised that beneficiaries use them as they requested for and again have in mind that being disabled does not mean they are sick so they should psyche themselves and work hard to achieve big in future. She revealed that this has been the third time after the district was carved from the Parent ‘Atiwa district’, they are taking care of the persons with disability.

The chairman of the federation of disables, Atiwa east chapter, Mr Samuel Adasi thanked the authorities for ensuring persons with disability also benefit from the national cake. However, he advised his fellow colleagues not to waste all they earn on foods and clothes rather invest to gain more.

The president of the republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, after assumption of office in 2017 promised not to give out direct money to the disables anymore but to make them entrepreneurs and has since advised authorities to engage them as to what they really need and this is the third time the assembly since 2018 disbursed items to the PWDs in the district.
