Covid-19 & Education: CfSNI (an NGO) In Partnership With Office Of Okyenhene, GES and Radio 1, Introduces Radio Learning for Basic Schools

With effects from Friday 17th July 2020, a non profitable non- governmental organisation (NGO), Care for Society Network International (CfSNI) in partnership with the office of the Okyenehene, paramount Chief of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, the district and municipal levels of the Ghana Education Service and Radio 1, 100.7fm introduce radio learning for the basic school pupils, dubbed “Deep Reach Community Radio Learning”.

Deep Reach Community Radio Learning will be an interactive educational program to engage primary school pupils with their studies on air.

The municipal and districts to benefit from the radio learning program are Abuakwa North, Abuakwa South, Atiwa East and West, Suhum, Ayensuano, Upper West and Lower West Akyem, Fanteakwa North and South, Denkyembuor and Kwaebibrem.

Launching the program at Kyebi, the president of CfSNI, Mrs Anita Amoako-Gyimah revealed that ‘Deep Reach Community Radio Learning” is designed to give access to children in these communities to teaching and learning opportunities based on the Ghana Education Service Curriculum, once they tune in to Radio One, 100.7FM, from Friday, July 17, 2020 in the evenings and tuition begins at 5:15pm and ends at 6:00pm

The designed timetable for the all important program is as follows:

DAY – CLASS

Monday – ICT for all classes

Tuesday – Four (4)

Wednesday – Five (5)

Thursday – Six (6)

Friday – Three (3)

Saturday – Two (2)

Sunday – One(1)

Moreover, Mrs Anita Amoako-Gyima said the program is to promote distance primary education through community radio to bridge the gap for the rural and urban children in this time that schools had been closed due to the novel Covid-19 pandemic.

Throwing more light on the program, she indicated that children would be engaged in their classroom subjects like history, our World Our people (OWOP), Religious and Moral Education (RME), English and Science on the radio on the scheduled periods and also have the opportunity to phone-in for clarifications.

She further appealed to parents to take interest in the program by ensuring that their kids tune in to the station at the designated times.

The municipal Chief executive of Abuakwa South, Hon. Kojo Ofori – Safo said radio is a powerful and most effective way of communication, and he is optimistic that the program would go a long way to serve it’s mission and vision.

He disclosed that the Assembly had provided multi-usage solar lamps for children in the remote communities to aid them in learning at home and pledged the Assembly and the Education Directorate’s support to ensure the success of the program.

Nana Etwienana Kwante Agyeman, Okyenhene Menatohene, was full of gratitude to the organizers of the program, describing it as a novelty that would serve the interest of education for many children in the area and assured them the support of the Okyenhene and his council for the success of the program.
