Farm Radio International, a very reputable Canadian based non profitable non-governmental organization, focused on using radio to help African farming communities help themselves, has supported a media establishment in the eastern region of Ghana, Radio 1, 100.7fm with a little over one thousand two hundred Canadian Dollars to provide the necessary education on Covid-19 to the general public especially the farming communities.

The support which was released from the NGO’s emergency support fund is aimed at helping the radio station purchase personal protection equipment for the station of which all workers, clients, audiences and listeners would directly and indirectly benefit and also provide them with ample airtime to discuss, update and sensitize the citizenry.

In an interview with the country director of Farm Radio International, Ghana, Benjamin Fiafor on Radio 1, he disclosed that the support came from Global Affairs Canada and Radio was so lucky to be part of the 10 media houses selected in Ghana and also one of the two beneficiary stations in Eastern region.

He added that Farm Radio International is of the mission of making radio a powerful force for good in rural Africa—one that shares knowledge, amplifies voices, and supports positive change. In this regard, the fund is to support the station to provide accurate, reliable and credible information to the audiences, listeners and the surrounding communities.

Moreover, he was quick to add that one area the station would look at in times of the deadly novel Covid-19 is to tackle stigmatization. Recovered patients of Covid-19 including their families face a kind of stigma in the communities and therefore the need to sensitize them to refrain from such acts.

He added that listeners and audiences must ensure they religiously follow the requisite protocols spelt out by the ministry of health and the Ghana health service so as to mitigate the effects of the deadly novel Covid-19.

As at the time of filing this post, Ghana had recorded 17,741 confirmed cases, 13,268 total recoveries with 112 total death leaving the nation with 4,361 active cases to contend with.
