Barekese Dam: Citizens Give Government One Month To Compensate Land Owners And Deal With Encroachers

It has been in recent news that Barekesse dam in the Atwima Nwabiagya North district is been encroached by some cocoa farmers but authorities are still adamant to the issue meanwhile the deputy minister for land and natural resource is still the current MP at the constituency hon Benito Owusu Bio.

Concern Citizens of Marbang has given the president up to September ending to end dam issues with the encroachers and in addition to compensate them for using their properties as dam . According to the concern citizens, the dam is located at Marbang and their lands are use as Forest to protect the dam that is why they are so serious about it.

Barekesse dam is one of the largest dam in the region providing drinking water to the people of Ashanti Region . The deepness of the dam was 250ft but it has shrink to 9ft yet still authorities remain unconcern about the gradual changes, this has angered the concern citizens of the town to put authorities in order to react to the current status of the dam.

The president of the association Owusu Serebour express disappointment in the authorities for being adamant to the issue which is depending between the cocoa farmers and the residents. He appealed to the regional minister and other authorities to act as possible from now to ending of September or expect bloodbath between the encroachers and the residents.
