I Feel Proud To Hear My Son Speaks on Radio, Thanks To Deep Reach Radio Learning – Parent Confesses

One of the most innovative, and of-course most engaging and participatory Radio Learning program for pupils in primary schools in Ghana in times of the deadly novel Covid-19 pandemic has been Deep Reach Community Radio Learning project on Radio 1 100.7FM.

The all important project that is aimed at bridging the gap of learning at a time the leaders of the country had no option than to close down all schools in Ghana as part of efforts to mitigate the spread and effects of this deadly novel Covid-19 pandemic.

In view of this, parents and children have embraced the Radio Learning Project as it has reduced drastically the adverse effects the closed down of schools could have brought on the pupils and the parents as well. This is because the organisers have strategically planned the project to meet the needs of all listeners and audiences of Radio 1 100.7FM.

Recent confession from a parent who could not hide her excitement and appreciation after her son received award for being one of the most punctual (regular) in terms of participating in the Radio learning project is, Henrietta Appiatu from Apedwa in the Abuakwa south municipality in the eastern region who disclosed how the project has helped her and her son.

“The program is very motivating. It has helped us especially in times of Covid-19 when some of us are struggling to get private teachers for our children. For me it has really helped me and my children. In fact i feel very proud when i hear my son speaks on Radio. I see and hear many children on television and Radio and i like them so now that it is my son, i get so excited. Thanks to the organisers of Deep reach community Radio Learning” – Parent confesses.

She therefore used the opportunity to advise her colleague parents, never to miss the opportunity thereby entreating them to also get involved in times of this deadly novel virus.

Though, Deep Reach Community Radio learning is designed for pupils from Basic 1 to Basic 6 and it’s aired on Radio 1 100.7FM everyday from 5:15pm – 6:00pm, pupils in the Junior High Schools as well as parents also benefit. Subjects taught on the Radio Station include; ICT, History, Our World Our People, Ghanaian Language, English, Culture, among others. The unique segment of this project is that pupils are given the opportunity to phone in to contribute, answer questions and also submit their assignments.

The main organiser of the project is Care For Society Network International, a non-profitable non-governmental organisation in partnership with the office of the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the eastern regional education service and Radio 1 100.7FM.

However, management of the project has envisioned to extend the project even after schools are re-opened so as to help the pupils enrich their learning abilities and therefore appeals to all come support them financially, physically and spiritually as the project unveils the capabilities in the future leaders of the country.
