Once again, the flag-bearer of the largest opposition party in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress NDC, former president John Dramani Mahama has maintained his commitment to pay Assembly members in the country when given the mandate in the December 7 2020 general election as the next president of the country.
According to him, the president in his four years of stay in power has traveled a lot which has caused the country to lose about 69 million cedis.
Addressing the Chiefs and people of Sogakpe in the South Tongu constituency as part of his four-day tour of the Volta Region, Mr Mahama expressed concern that the Akufo-Addo led NPP government is mismanaging the economy.
“… and i said we will pay Assembly men and they say no you can’t pay but i’m telling you we will pay them. there are about five thousand five hundred elected members (5500). We can even give them each GHS 1,000 a month and in a year we will spend about GHS 66million under GHS 70million. Last year, 2019 the president’s travel alone was GHS 69 million and so if we want to pay Assembly members and the president stops travelling, can’t we pay them?” – Mahama stressed.
