The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV has revealed that it is so sad that after 63 years of nationhood, Ghana is still struggling to define who a Ghanaian is.
According to him, if the birth certificate has lost its credibility the of-course, passports have also lost its credibility.
He made this known when the former president and flag-bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC, John Dramani Mahama paid a courtesy call on him at his palace as part of his 4 – days visit to the Volta region.
“It’s so sad that after 63 years of nationhood, we are still trying to define who a Ghanaian is. We don’t know as at now the value of our birth certificates in which we took so much pride as evidence of our belonging to the nation Ghana. and of-course if the birth certificate has lost it’s certificate then of-course our passports have also lost its credibility” – Togbe Afede XIV said.

The paramount chief added that it is now a difficult time for Ghanaians to now define our citizenry and said it’s also not time for anyone to claim to be more Ghanaian than others.
He bemoaned on the sad occurrences of tribalism in Ghana and disputed the claims that foreigners troop to the nation to register and vote in his region.
Togbe Afede XIV born James Akpo is the President of the National House of Chiefs, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State and President of Asogli Traditional Area. He is one of the most respected paramount Chiefs of our time.
Ghana’s Supreme Court has unanimously held that birth certificate is not a form of identification. The court explains that the document does not establish “the identity of the bearer”. This is contained in the court’s judgment in the case filed by private citizen Mark Takyi Banson which court delivered judgment on June 25 together with the case filed by the opposition NDC.
