“From 2017 to date, this government has borrowed a GHS 140bn to consume. Before they came to power, they were saying borrowing is bad. Today, they are not only borrowing, they are even mortgaging our future. They are not only borrowing, the are mortgaging our future and the youth must take and interest in it. Because those people doing the borrowing, you are coming to pay that money. The distance left for them to go is shorter than the distance you have to travel so when they are mortgaging your future and borrowing to spend today and leave the debt for you, you must take an interest.” – Mahama said.
As December 7 general polls approaches, each political party in Ghana is poised at doing all the needed to win election and the largest opposition party in Ghana is not left out.
Right after the mass voters registration exercise, the former president of Ghana and flag-bearer of the National Democratic congress, NDC, Mr John Dramani has made a 7 day tour to Volta and Oti regions to canvass for votes.
Addressing residents and party faithfuls, supporters and party sympathisers in the Volta region, former president Mahama expressed much concern about how the current Akufo-Addo led NPP administration is borrowing. He added that the NPP government is not just borrowing rather mortgaging the future of Ghana.

“For many years, 10% of every gold business in this country, Ghana has free carried interest and we earn between $150m and $200m a year from these royalties. This government wants to assign the royalties to a company registered in an offshore island whose shareholders and directors we don’t know and they are mortgaging these royalties for the next 15 years to take $1.5bn and spend it” – Mahama added.
Moreover, the NDC flag-bearer said this coupled with other reasons why he is contesting to rescue the nation.
