The National Chairman for the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, Dr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has bemoaned at the use of the state security agencies and the so called national security services to intimidate citizenry assumed as NDC faithfuls and especially in the NDC strongholds during the electoral commission’s voter ID registration exercise.
In an interview with the media after visiting loads of electoral areas in Ashanti region and eastern region, the experienced politician registered his displeasure towards the way and manner the state security are deployed to some polling centers to intimidate NDC supporters, faithfuls and sympathisers.
He also disclosed his dissatisfaction when virtually no security officer was deployed to Asiakwa polling centers in the Abuakwa South constituency in the eastern in the eastern region.
“As of now i’m satisfied with the process but our greatest worry is the use of state security service and the so called National security to intimidate and harass people. We were Asuogyaman for instance and in one registration center which is regarded as the NDC stronghold, we had about 6 security personnel. We went to Ashanti region and in some places we had only one person there. I am here in Asiakwa in the Abuakwa South constituency which is Akufo-Addo’s constituency and there is no security personnel here.” – Chairman Ofosu Ampofo said.

Moreover, he charged the Inspector General of Police, IGP to be fair and not be selective in exercising his duties.
“We asked that the IGP and EC must not be even handed. They must not be selective in the applications of the deployment of security forces. Why have you deployed abot 6 -8 security personnel to one registration center in Asuogyaman and then we are here and there is no one here. That is not fair and we want our security agencies to discharge their responsibilities with professionalism and assure all and sundry that they are going to be neutral in the discharge of their professional security duties.” – Ofosu Ampofo maintained.
He asked if the same would happen during the voting exercise come December 7 2020.
