No Proper System To Collect Artistes Royalties, They Only Give Us GHS100 & Pocket The Rest – Guru

The contemporary Ghanaian Rapper and dynamic musician, Maradona Yeboah Adjei best known in Ghana and beyond as Guru or Gurunkz has revealed that the music industry players do not care more about the industry now and its future.

According to him, the industry has no system to take care of the artistes as well as no proper system to insure them which would guarantee them in old age.

He added that if he is in a position to change anything about the industry, he would change all the industry players. Guru maintained that there is no proper system that collects artistes royalties so they are underpaid while the players pocket the rest.

He made this known in a phone interview on Sunday Special, an entertainment show on Radio 1 (100.7FM) when the host, Kean Roy asked of the one thing he would change in the industry when given the opportunity.

“All the industry players. They don’t care about Ghana. We don’t have a system. Up till now we don’t have a system that takes care of the artiste in terms of insurance. There is no support which is guaranteed that artistes would be secured say at 80 years. There is nothing like proper systems that collects artistes royalties. They pocket the money and bring you GHS100 and ask you to sign. You won’t know the data they used to check what one rightfully deserves.” – Guru revealed.

Moreover, Guru said he considers the current systems as a cheat.
