In this Community, Residents Get Mobile Network Only In One Plantain Farm

Surprisingly, in the 21st century, residents of Nkankama in the Fanteakwa South District in the eastern region still complain bitterly for lack of telecommunication network in the community.

Residents have to converge in one plantain farm before access to mobile network is available.

A community of about 3,000 population, with a basic school, CHP compound, market place, residents suffer a lot before getting access to the network for effective communication.

At Nkankama, residents have to resort to going deep into the bush, climb mountain before they can use the internet or sit in someone’s plantain farm.

Speaking with the headteacher of Nkankama D/A basic school who is the only mobile money vendor and credit transfers in the community, he disclosed to Obido Nana Gyasi of Radio 1 that the situation has been there for long and has been their biggest challenge.

He added that residents have no option that to converge in their numbers in the plantain farm for network access and he is doing the mobile money to help the residents from traveling far to Begoro or Asesawa before the can withdraw money. He sits on a stone in the farm to do his business.

He used the opportunity to appeal to government, the various telecommunication networks to as a matter of urgency come to their aid.
