Abuakwa South Honors 13 Farmers At Its 36th Farmers Day Celebration

The Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly was not left out in honoring the hardworking farmers of the land at this year’s 36th farmers day celebration as it honors 13 farmers for their outstanding work on their various farms.
In all, 2 women and eleven men were received various degrees of prizes to boost their morals in doing more in the coming years.
In a ceremony to honor the able farmers in the Abuakwa South municipality at Bunso Cocoa College on Friday 6th November 2020, the winners got some farm inputs, among other prizes.
Mr Addisson K. Dzifa of Akyem Asafo won this year’s best farmer and took home a tricycle and other farm inputs. Mrs Eunice Tetteh also of Akyem Asikam was adjudged best female farmer and also took home Deep freezer and other farmer inputs. Best Digital Farmer – Mr William Kwaku Ompong – Kyebi Domeabra
Best Quality Maize Producer – Djaba Co-operative Farmers Assoc. – Djaba
Best FBO – Nyame Akwan Co-operative Society – Asiakwa
Best Basic School In Agriculture – Asiakwa Presby School – Asiakwa
The colorful ceremony was chaired by Osabarima Abbeam Brakatu Ofori Aninkra, chief of Bunso and was supported by the chiefs in the municipality including Osabarima Okogyeaman Apagya Ofori, chief of Akyem Apapam under the theme, “Agribusiness Development under Covid 19 – Opportunities and Challenges”. Osabarima Abbeam Brakatu Ofori Aninkra urged government to listen to the plea of the farmers, especially with complaints of Cocoa Buying Companies tampering with the weighing scales.
The municipal chief executive, Hon. Kojo ofori Safo congratulated the farmers and urged them to do more . However, he acknowledged the immense support from the member of parliament, Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea which according to him the ceremony wouldn’t have been successful without him. He added that Agriculture today has changed from mere farming to business and urged all to participate.
The representative of the member of parliament, Mr Yaw boakye Yiadom, the NPP chairman for Abuakwa South constituency also congratulated the farmers and was surprised how digital farming is done.
Present also were the District police commander, District MTTD boss, Municipal Health Director, Municipal NCCE director, among other farmers, Assembly members, and the municipal assembly staff including the Municipal coordinating Director, Mrs Vera Akuffo Mante.
Aside Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea, Mumuadu Rural bank, GCB and Crystal Mining Company were acknowledged for supporting the ceremony.
