On Friday 6th November, 2020, the Country Director of Farm Radio International in Ghana, Mr Ben Fiafor released a statement on behalf of Farm Radio International to appeal to government to enforce the use of Standard Weight and Measures for Agribusiness in Ghana.
Below is the full statement;
As the country prepares to award its gallant farmers on 6th November, 2020 in Techiman in the Bono East Region, Farmer Radio International (FRI) seizes this opportunity to salute all farmers for their hard work in feeding the nation and producing cash crops for foreingn exchange.
This year’s theme: “Agribusiness Development Under COVID-19: Challenges and Opportunities”, presents us with a herculean task of exploring new avenues to finding solutions to challenges hampering growth in the agricultural sector.

Without the use of Weight and Measure for selling farm commodities in Ghana, there can be no meaningful agribusiness in Ghana. Broadening the scope of agribusiness and extension services delivery through an extensive use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and the introduction of measuring scales are the obvious choices to achieving results in the agricultural sector.
Currently, Farm Radio international in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) under the Directorate of Extension Services is rolling out the Digital Agriculture Advisory Services Strategy and Plan (DAASSP) project to offer digital advisory services to farmers. This, we believe will help in scaling up agribusiness and extension services delivery, especially in the midst of COVID-19, and its attending difficulties with physical extension work.
Farm Radio International is, therefore, calling on the government to promote and enforce the adoption and institutionalization of standard, weight, and measures for trading in all agricultural commodities to enhance agribusiness in Ghana.
We also call on stakeholders including the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ghana Standards Authority, the media, development partners, farmers and the general public to join in the nationwide campaign on the use of standard, weight and measure in Ghana.
