Miners Have Taken Over Two Thirds Of Our Cocoa Despite Good Policies By Governments – Cocoa Farmer

The Chairman of ‘So Mu Yie’ Cocoa farmers association, in the fanteakwa south district in the eastern region, Mr Daniel Amenyo has bitterly lamented on the fastest eroding of cocoa trees in the district by the mining companies.
According to the hardworking cocoa farmer, their efforts in building and sustaining the cocoa for future generation has been at standstill and will eventually be a cos 90 job as the miners are aggressively taking over their farm land.
In a phone interview with Sompahemaa of Radio 1 100.7fm, Mr Daniel Amenyo acknowledged the efforts by government to build the cocoa sector by initiating policies to help sustain cocoa farming.
“Government’s cocoa mass spraying is helping us a lot, we appreciate it. The fertilizer subsidy is also doing us good but our biggest problem miners taking over our farms. About two thirds of our cocoa farms have been destroyed” – Mr Amenyo bitterly lamented.

He added that the current government is providing a lot of incentives to the cocoa farmers than the previous government, but was quick to add that the former government’s decision of providing free fertilizer was more helpful than the government’s subsidy of 50% discount on fertilizer.
Mr Daniel Amenyo added that they sometimes have to buy sachet water before they get water for mass spraying because mining has polluted all the surrounding water in the district.
He therefore appealed to government for his quick intervention to help remedy the issue.
