News coming in after burning excavators belonging to a large scale mining company in the eastern region, Extra Gold mining company, in the Atiwa West district with Kate Gyamfua as the General manager has it that the attempt has caused mixed reactions among the citizenry.

According to the Assembly member for Muoso electoral Area, Hon. Kwame Nyarko, he had no option than to sell his uncompleted house at Kasoa to pay for a loan he took from a bank.

He explained further that the approach to end illegal mining by burning their excavators was in the right direction to help protect the land, water bodies and the forest.

“I took a loan amount of ₵35,000.00 from Kwahu Rural bank at Anyinam for vegetable production. Two weeks to harvesting, Xtral Gold opened their dam and flooded my vegetables and destroyed everything. I petitioned Xtra Gold, Water Resource, Minerals Commission, but only minerals commission responded. Because Kate Gyamfua is the General manager, they never responded. I had to sell my plot of land I’m building house on at Kasoa to settle the bank. All because of Kate Gyamfua’s mining.” – Hon. Kwame Nyarko.
