The Director of Operations at the Motor Traffic and Transport Department(MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, Dr Samuel Sasu Mensah can not believe the the astronomical shoot in road crashes in Ghana especially in the first 4 months of 2021.

While hopes were high when institutions were resourced to help fight road crashes in Ghana to either eradicate or reduce the menace, this year appears to be a very challenging year as cases of road accident keep increasing and stakeholders in ensuring road safety are highly bothered.

For this reason, Dr Samuel Sasu does not understand why despite putting in much efforts to fight the accident canker is not yielding any positive results. According to him, 263 souls were lost through road accident in April alone this year which brings the total number of lives lost through road crashes in the year to 1034 after recording 5476 crashes.

“The Statistics we have is not good at all but we have done so many education, enforcement and awareness exercises. In April alone 263 lives are lost and from January to April we have recorded 5476 crashes” – Dr Samuel Sasu Mensah said.
